A second 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder over the alleged stabbing of an older boy in Sydney's north-west.

Emergency services called to Bruce Purser Reserve in Rouse Hills on Monday afternoon found a 17-year-old boy with a stab wound to his leg.

Paramedics weren't able to save him and he died at the scene, on Caballo Street.

A crime scene has been declared as police search for the alleged attackers.

A 15-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was charged with murder on Monday night after presenting to a police station with his parents.

He was remanded in custody after appearing in a children's court on Tuesday.

About 9.45pm on Tuesday, police searched a home in Rouse Hill and arrested a second 15-year-old boy, who was also charged with murder.

Speaking to media on Monday night, Superintendent Naomi Moore said there didn't appear to be any links to nearby Rouse Hill High School.

She called the event a "senseless" tragedy.

"It's a tragic situation. I have 17-year-olds at home, this has impacted the core of the community," she said.

"It is, I have no other words but it's just tragedy and it's senseless."

The second 15-year-old is due to face a Sydney children's court on Wednesday. The first boy to be charged is scheduled to return to court on January 23.
