CCTV captures man using axe to smash windows of Victorian jewellery store

CCTV footage has been released by police, capturing the moment a man smashed his way into a jewellery store in regional Victoria.

Investigators believe a stolen white Holden Commodore was driven to the jewellers on Percy Street in Portland about 1.40am last Saturday.

The footage shows the man exiting the car, using an axe to smash the front windows of the business before making off with jewellery and watches.

Police believe the man returned to the car, before driving off.

The Holden was found dumped on Bell Street in Haywood a short time later and a Toyota Landcruiser was then stolen.

The Landcruiser was located in Terang later that day.

One of the offenders is described as Caucasian with a solid build and at the time of the offence was wearing black shoes, black pants with a white stripe, glove and black hooded top.
