Man accused of brawling with NRL journalist charged

The man allegedly involved in a scuffle with rugby league journalist Paul Kent in Sydney has been charged following a video of Kent and another man involved in a heated argument.

The 35-year-old was taken to Newtown police station in the city's Inner West overnight and charged with affray after officers opened an investigation.

The vision, which has been widely circulated on social media, captures Kent and another man arguing outside Totti's restaurant in Rozelle while security staff and other patrons attempt to intervene.

The video ends with the NRL journalist charging at another man before he is flung upside down into the base of a tree.

Fox Sports and News Corp Australia yesterday issued a joint statement confirming they had stood down 54-year-old Kent.

"Fox Sports presenter and News Corp Australia columnist Paul Kent has been stood down pending an immediate investigation," the statement reads.

The 35-year-old man was charged with affray and given conditional bail. He is scheduled to face court in June.

The incident comes just six months after Kent was found not guilty of assaulting and choking a woman he was in an off-and-on relationship with.

Police inquiries are continuing.
