What will and won't be open on Australia Day

A range of retail changes will come into place on the national public holiday, Australia Day.

The nation's leading supermarkets have confirmed most of their branches will be open, however individual operating hours vary from state to state.

To make things easier to pick up some last-minute supplies if you find yourself in need, here's everything you need to know.

Retailers

ALDI

Most Aldi stores around the country will be open for all your shopping needs this Australia Day

The supermarket giant encouraged shoppers to head to the store locater section of their website to confirm individual opening times.

Aldi stores around the country close at 8pm. 

Woolworths

Most Woolies stores across the country will remain open on Australia Day with some exceptions.

In New South Wales and the ACT, all stores will remain open.

In Victoria, all stores are will be open.

In Queensland, all stores will be open except Weipa, Mission Beach, Ayr, Bowen, Charters Towers, Mt Isa, Proserpine, Blackwater, Childers, Chinchilla, Kingaroy, Roma, and Pittsworth.

In Western Australia, all stores are open except in Esperance and Katanning.

In South Australia, all stores will be open.

In the Northern Territory, most stores will be open.

All stores are open in Tasmania.

Aussies are encouraged to check individual supermarkets' trading hours.

Woolworths in Marrickville Metro

Target

Target shops in every state will all be open on Australia day with the exception of South Australia.

In South Australia, all Target stores will be closed except Target Centrepoint.

Kmart.

Kmart

In most states, all Kmart stores will be open as usual on Australia Day, with varying trading hours.

In New South Wales, the Kmart store in Stanhope Gardens will be closing permanently the day before Australia Day.

In South Australia, many stores will be open on Australia day. The following Kmart stores will be closed: Firle, Tea Tree, Munno Para, Ingle Farm, Kurralta Park, West Lakes, Port Noarlunga, Port Adelaide, and Churchill.

Coles

Coles has confirmed to 9news.com.au that all Coles stores will remain open, with the exception of some stores in South Australia.

In South Australia, stores will be closed except for the following locations: Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Berri, Port Augusta, Mount Barker, Adelaide Rundle Place, Whyalla, Murray Bridge Green, Mount Gambier and Victor Harbor.

Coles adds text alerts to their click collect service

Bunnings

If you need barbecue equipment, mozzie spray or beach umbrellas, you're in luck. All Bunnings stores around the country will stay open this Australia Day.

Liquor stores

Australia's leading alcohol retailers Dan Murphy's, BWS, Liquorland, Vintage Cellars will be open for trading on January 26.

Though, as with most major outlets, specific opening hours will vary from store to store and Aussies are encouraged to check their local beforehand to avoid being caught out. 

Residents in South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland are advised in particular to check stores' websites as they may have reduced trading times.
