Home destroyed after suspicious fire in Melbourne

A suspicious fire has destroyed a house in Melbourne's south-west overnight.

Emergency services were called to the property on Koornang Road in Carnegie after reports of smoke about 3am.

The home was engulfed in flames when crews arrived but the fire was quickly extinguished.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but nearby residents were temporarily evacuated, with concerns the fire would spread.

Police are investigating the suspicious fire, and are yet to determine the exact cause of the blaze.

The road between Neerim Road and Munroe Avenue is expected to remain closed for several hours.
