Homes lost as evacuation order issued for Queensland bushfire

An evacuation warning has been issued for a Queensland border town as bushfires bear down.

People on properties at Dalveen, between the New England Highway, Warwick Killarney Road, and Cullendore Road, have been told to leave immediately with "multiple potentially deadly fires" in the area.

Those who stay have been told they are putting their lives at risk.

The bushfire has cut the highway in half, leaving people to flee north to Warwick or south to Standthorpe.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services website has urged people without a place to go, to make for Warwick's Town Hall at 72 Palmerin Street.

"Properties are being impacted now," the site warns, alongside a caution people should not expect a firefighter at their door.

At least one home has already been lost to the flames in the area, while multiple properties have been lost at Wallangarra, also in the Southern Downs region of Queensland.

Multiple "prepare to leave" warnings are also in place across the region.

Residents of Tara and Wieambilla, who fled bushfires in recent days, have been told it's still not safe to return home.
