Countdown starts as Olympic Torch begins 11-week journey

Joyful crowds gathered along the streets of France's southern port of Marseille on Thursday to see torchbearers carrying the Olympic flame through the city's most emblematic sites, a day after it arrived on a majestic three-mast ship for a welcoming ceremony. US set to approve fourth COVID-19 jabs for older adults

The Biden administration is expected to give older adults in the US the option of getting a second COVID-19 vaccine booster as early as next week. Two sources familiar with the government's plans said the US Food and Drug Administration is planning authorise a fourth dose of the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines for adults over age 50 next week. The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to follow soon after with what's known as a permissive recommendation, which means that the shots will not be officially recommended but may be given to people who want them, said a source who spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity. Intense weather system that triggered 500,000 lightning strikes pushes east

Severe storms that brought almost 500,000 lightning strikes over parts of Western Australia on the weekend are pushing into eastern states causing heavy rain.
