Police officer allegedly 'king hit' by teen after wild beach party

A teenager has been charged with allegedly assaulting a police officer at a beach party on Melbourne's Mornington Peninsula overnight.

A crowd of up to 300 people partied on the beach at Rosebud Jetty with loud music blaring, when police swooped in and dispersed the partygoers.

Police remained at the scene to ensure there were no further disturbances and an acting sergeant was then allegedly king hit from behind in what police described as "an unprovoked attack".

A 15-year-old from Rosebud was arrested at the scene and charged with a number of offences including assault emergency worker, reckless conduct likely to cause serious injury, four counts of resist police and commit an indictable offence on bail.

He has been remanded to appear at a children's court.

The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released.
