Queensland on edge as COVID-19 restrictions return

Queensland is on edge following the reintroduction of a raft of restrictions as the state's new COVID-19 outbreak continues to slowly grow.

A nipper who took part in the Southport Surf Life Saving Club Bronze Medallion last week is among the new cases, with the 50 kids from the club plunged into isolation.

She's the daughter of a Gold Coast man who was diagnosed earlier.

There are a total of 22 active cases in the state and more than 100 exposure sites.

The NRL would consider the "unlikely possibility" of postponing the grand final if Queensland health authorities said there can't be crowds at Suncorp Stadium.

Crowds have been cut to 75 per cent capacity, with the 13,000 people to be given refunds.

People at the stadium must watch the action wearing masks.

Premier Anastacia Palaszczuk has denied she's holding back on a lockdown for the sports event, but fears are growing that new mystery cases could trigger one.

"I think everyone realises that we've got to put these restrictions in place if we are to avoid a lockdown at this stage," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"I want everyone please to take this very seriously and to please do the right thing.

"The health of Queenslanders comes first, as soon as Dr Young says we need to go into lockdown, we will."

Masks are now mandatory indoors and outdoors unless eating or drinking, and a maximum 30 people are allowed at home.

Pubs and restaurants are limited on numbers which equate to one person per four square metres.

Weddings can only have 100 guests.

Aged care, correctional centres, hospitals and disability service providers will close to visitors.

The rules apply to Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Logan, Moreton Bay, Townsville and Palm Island.
